The University of Essex is part of an elite group of ‘dual intensive’ universities rated gold for teaching excellence (TEF 2017) and top 20 for research excellence (REF 2014).

We’re 22nd in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 and over five decades we’ve created a truly global community for original thinkers who seek to change the world for the better.

We’re top 20 globally for international outlook (THE World University Rankings 2018) and ranked in the top 15 for student satisfaction for the fifth year running (National Student Survey 2017, overall student satisfaction, English mainstream universities).

The Outreach team co-ordinate multiple activities and events throughout the year including our flagship Big Bang Science Fair, Digital Arts Festival and Free CPD Week.

Using teacher feedback, we design our events to increase attainment, raise aspirations and help young people make informed decisions about study routes and career progression.

We predominately work with students from underrepresented groups, including those who are the first in their family to enter Higher Education, those from particular socioeconomic backgrounds, and those from certain ethnic and racial minority groups.
